What do we want in life? What is it that we are seeking? Redemption, salvation, pardon for our sins? Or do we seek a higher level of existence? Are we here to save ourselves, our souls, our future? Should we seek to abandon society for the sake of purification? I think society needs our physical help far more than we feel our immortal souls need redemption. Or perhaps the two go hand in hand. We exist in a physical world, therefore our actions must also be of the physical nature. I am not advocating the neglect or abandonment of our spiritual side, but we also need to be assessing and analyzing the problems around us. If we are to be of any benefit to anyone else, we must first be of benefit to ourselves. It is impossible to help or guide others to feel good about themselves if we harbor feelings of self loathing or denial of who we actually are. If we can not recognize the good in ourselves, we become more of the problems in this world than we ever are of the solutions. Self reflection is not a selfish act. It is a necessary examination of our inner inventory- what we have, what we are lacking in, what in us needs to be replenished, revamped or revitalized.
