A sincere heart and an upbeat attitude can carry you on for miles.
I took this photo in La Ceiba, Honduras. The pier, the view, the people were all magnificent.

Don’t stand there staring at me with that look of contempt.
Don’t tell me that I have no right to meddle in your affairs.
I am your parent, so not only is it my right, I consider it my sacred duty to give you my opinion on what you are doing.
I want you to listen to the words that are coming from my mouth.
As your mother, I will continue to give you advice until the day I die.
And years later, after I am gone
You will wish I were still here
So that you could ask me questions
About how to run your life.

Our family recycle bin contains the usual characters;
empty boxes from devoured pizzas, or peaches of local fruit farms, or even corn squares cereal. In our bright green bin, you can find discarded containers of Gain laundry detergent, 100% Apple Juice, Soy milk, and vitamins. If you look closely enough, you can even spy a stray can or two of beer that was consumed on a sedate evening of repose after a long day at the office or jail.
My daughter works as a prison guard, or a correctional officer, as is the preferred term these days.
I am a photographer. My job entails taking inanimate objects, finding their beauty through a lens, and then posting and boasting their finer qualities online for potential buyers.
My daughter gets to go to a place of confinement every evening, and watch humanity spiral down through the hell(s) of violence, addiction, and mental disabilities. She is not trained nor encouraged to look for the beauty in anything or anyone.
Instead, she is conditioned to keep a lid on things, maintain complete control in an atmosphere of chaos and uncertainty, and be ever alert for swelling problems and threatening situations.
Our discarded beer cans do not belong to me. After a day of creativity and art work, I do not feel the need to decompress or shed layers of negativity or danger.
But my daughter does, and neither I, nor anyone else has the right to tell her that she can’t.
So we keep on with our daily lives, earning our money as best as we can. Our empty beer cans and pizza boxes sit weekly on our curb, waiting to be recycled once again into a necessary trade.
It is the perceptions of life that guide most people throughout their days and not,
in reality, the circumstances that surround us.
Photo and quote by L. J. Buffington
Wow, it has been such a long time since I have been on here, but as I wrap up this semester of online college classes, I found this on a website and it just sort of spoke to the moment.
“Live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” Ephesians 4:1
I didn’t have a Bible to double check the text, so if anyone has one that says something different, drop me a line and correct me. And of course, have an amazing day.
AS THINGS FLOW IN, THEY MUST ALSO FLOW OUT. In our lives, there needs to be an outpouring to match the incoming.
Think about any hoarders whom you might know. Why are their houses such disasters? Because they take everything in, and let nothing or very little of it go.
Now think of your own life in terms of success and/or happiness. Does your life seem stagnant right now? Have you taken in as many blessings as you can, only to give nothing back in return?
Don’t feel as though you have nothing to give, we all have things to contribute, no matter how small they may seem at the time. Remember, that one person’s trash could be an unbelievable treasure to someone else. Find something, someone or some place to contribute to.
So as Christmas approaches, try not to think of this season in terms of what you might receive, but consider instead just how much you can give.
